Malaria Puts Sudan in State of Emergency The Associated Press Khartoum, Sudan - Sudan has declared a state of emergency in a part of its eastern region where 109 people died of malaria, the independent Alwan daily reported April 4. It was not clear when the epidemic began or when the state of emergency was declared. The government sent a fact- finding commission to the state of Red Sea in eastern Sudan after there were reports that some 3,000 people had been infected with the disease, the paper said.
